What a broken spring means for your door
The springs counterbalance the door’s weight. A loud bang, a visible separation in a torsion spring or a door that suddenly struggles to lift can indicate a counterbalance problem. Stop using the opener and have the spring system inspected rather than asking the motor to lift the unsupported load.

We confirm the exact total on site before any work starts and almost always recommend replacing both springs together when one breaks. The other is usually close behind.
Why is DIY spring replacement dangerous?+

How do I know if my garage door spring is broken?+
Most obvious signs: loud bang from the garage (often at night when temperatures drop), the door won't open or feels extremely heavy, a visible 2-inch gap in the spring coil, the opener motor strains and stops, or the door opens 6 inches and halts. Don't try to force it. Call us.
Should I replace both springs at once?+
Yes, almost always. If one spring snapped, the other has the same cycle count and is statistically close to failing too. Doing both during one visit saves you a second service call and we discount the second spring when paired.
